A cat scan itself has no side effects. It dose expose you to a certain amount of X ray radiation, which may very very very slightly increase your risk of developing cancer in the future.
Sometimes a contrast dye is given IV before the scan to better identify blood vessels and other structures. People can have an allergic reaction to this, or people with poor kidney function may have some increased risk of kidney damage.
All in all the benefits of the data that you gain far exceed the risks.
Good luck.
