The world record largest black bear ever killed is 880 pounds.  This bear was shot by a bow hunter near Jacksonville, North Carolina, in 1998.  Prior to that, the record was a 760-pounder killed by a motorist on Hwy. 378 near Kingsburg, South Carolina; the driver of the car was also killed in that collision.
