Large nostrils so that the horses can run fast and escape from predators such as mountain lions.Their round ears let them be able to hear their surroundings and when danger is near...they live in herds to watch each others back. Each herd is lead by one dominant stallion. Hard hooves to defend against the predators, this would be their second option if they couldn't run. Either from wolves or mountain lions.
