Yes, cats and dogs have a great sense of smell and taste. A doggies senses of taste and smell are closely linked. As a matter to fact, it seems they gain more info about food from its smell than from its taste. Most of a dog's taste buds are clustered around the tip of the tongue. Dogs can detect bitter, sweet, salty, and sour tastes, but their sense of taste is relatively poor and they have only one-sixth the number of taste buds that humans have.

very good answer yes there taste buds r something i have a shiztzu and a pug wow they have different

Yes they do taste it its a major thing for them,, the taste of the food...some dogs will die if they don't et the right flavor due to allergic reactions.
