  • Can you give a dog mylanta or peptobismol?
One thing you need to remember when thinking about feeding medication or any remedy to a dog is this; is the remedy you are about to give him or her made for dogs? If it a human medication or remedy then it is definitely not recommended unless advised to do so by a vet or animal expert.

The reason for this is because pepto bismol and mylanta were made for human digestive systems and human bodies so they would not have had canine bodies in mind whilst producing it. The side effects to these could at the least give your dog an upset stomach or at the worst really cause some severe complications. If you want to give him something like that either find a canine equivalent or seek the advice of a vet because if you don't and he or she ends up ill then it could end up costing you a lot more money in vets bills, and could even lead to permanent problems for the dog.

Anything medication, remedies or treatment wise that has been designed for humans is best to stick to human consumption only unless advised otherwise by your vet.

  • What is pepto bismol and mylanta?
Pepto bismol is a pink liquid used to help heartburn and indigestion in humans. It can also help settle upset stomachs. Mylanta is used for the same purpose and is also a liquid. These items you can buy over the counter at most pharmacies but they are only recommended for human consumption and only following the guidelines on the bottle.

I know that when my dogs are throwing up the vet has said to pull the food and water for 24 hours and then when the vomiting has stopped out rice and beef broth down to help their stomach settle down.

I had the same problem with our 2 yr beagle mix.  I ended up giving him a ginger snap cookie (on the vets advice).  Ginger has a settling effect on the stomach and it actually worked.   I keep a small bag around now just in case.

You should never give your dog any human meds because their body chemistry is different than ours and even something like baby tylenol could cause organ damage (per my dog's vet)  Your question was from a week ago, I hope your vet found nothing serious and that your dog is okay.

Both Mylanta and Pepto Bismol can be used in dogs but use of every medicine either natural, prescription or over the counter should be under the supervision of the vet. Mylanta can be given in dogs to treat stomach problems. Pepto Bismol is also used to treat stomach problems. But you should remember that both of these medicines don't treat bacterial and viral infection.

I wouldn't give dogs human medications....their digestive system differs from ours...for instance they can eat raw meat and sometimes rotten food and it doesn't bother them ...but chocolate will poison them so its hard to say what our medicine might do.....take it to a vet

There's nothing you can give for vomiting over the counter for animals. But can give pepcid to help settle the stomach.
