The niche of a red fox is to eat small mammals such as mice or rabbits which keeps them from overpopulating. If foxes live near a town they will scavenge out of garbage bins. Foxes are mostly carnivores but occasionally they will eat small fruits if they can find them. Since foxes are fast and agile it is rare cougars, lynx's and bears will ever catch a fox therefore humans are the foxes main threat. Foxes build dens under fallen trees in caves around boulders or in embankments.
