Both the Giant Panda and the smaller Red Panda come from China. Giant pandas have black and white coloring and are on the verge of extinction, however their numbers have risen in the last few years due to conservation and protection.

Both the Giant panda and the Red panda are related both to the bears and the raccoon family. Pandas have unusual cat like eyes and good eyesight. They have false opposing thumbs that grow from the wrist bone. The females are called sows and the males are called boars, while the young are known as cubs.

The Red panda is about 55cms long, while the Giant panda might grow up to five feet or longer and weigh up to 115 kilograms.
The diet of both the Giant and the Red pandas consists mainly of bamboo. It can also include fruits, berries, small birds and insects.
