Because the american bulldog is more short and pudgy... The american pitbull is skinnier(depending on the way the dog is raised) and longer than the bulldog..

And there teeth, My american bulldog has a under-bite and of course shorter then my american pitt-bull. Americans are also sweeter then the pitts. I have both a male pitt and a female american.

My american bulldog is a sweetheart, weighs 100 pounds, and we call him the bfg.
I also have 2 pitbulls and the two dog types are very different.
American bulldogs have shorter and wider snouts, they are more stout, and have huge heads. They also have lots of slobber to go along with their flappy cheeks.
They can be either medium, large, or extra large.
Real american pitbulls are medium-sized with very tight skin. They, like american bulldogs, have short fur. Pitbulls and american bulldogs are easily distinguished if you are aware of the differences between the two.

Usually, American Pitt Bulls have longer legs and are skinnier. American Bulldogs have shorter legs and under bites and more wrinkly snouts.
