"house" turtle????
Depends on the species. Mud turtles are popular and only grow to about 4-5". Cooters are also popular and females can be 16+". Then there are snapping turtles and softshells - FL softshells can be 2 FEET long and often have a very nasty disposition. They are popular in many petstores too.
NO turtle will grow only as large as it's environment, so you should look around for a turtle field guide and ID them as soon as you can (or go to turtleforum.com & post pics)
