Mares (female horse) do not exhibit any obvious sign of abdominal swelling until the final 3 months of pregnancy. Of course, you will be able to make out the enlargement in light framed animals but you will not be able to see the change that easily in large framed animals. The change in mammary organs is usually noticed during the last couple of months.

The horse in labour starts to gain a heavy appetite for food more than the norm, because she has to eat not just for itself but even for the baby. Also a mare which is pregnant, behaves in a manner which is contrary to its usual self.

One of my friends bought a horse. The horse was pregnant when she bought her. Is there any determined way to tell if your horse is pregnant just looking at her?

I had my horse served in july, so she would be 7 months pregnant,  I had someone out to scan her, however tha lady gave her an internal and said she can feel the horses uterus, so she can't be in foal and she didnt botther to put the scanner on her,  my horse is gaining weight around her middle and has had a complete change of personality, sometimes, lathargic, a bit clumbersome to ride and likes to be in stable rather than in field, which is definately not like her.  Do you think she could be pregnant, is it common to be wrongly advised after an internal?

Yer she most probably could if she has had a massive change of habbit and if she has had any changes of food like she might be always hungry that is sometimes a sign of pregnancy but usually in the later months of pregnancy.
