Hamsters are known for their frequent heat cycles and short gestation. Maximum litter size of hamsters can be of 15-16 with an average of 7. Newborn are hairless and weigh about two ounces. Babies are separated from mother after 3 weeks. It is necessary not to disturb mother and babies for 2 weeks after birth. That is why plenty of food is provided in their cage during last stages of gestation.
