Unfortunately we are not a medical authority. This means we are unable to answer this question with any definite solution. Whenever a pet is sick you should visit a vet immediately.

  • Your dog is family
When you take on a dog as a pet it becomes part of the family and you will not want to see him/her get sick. Dogs are not able to care for themselves and rely on their owners to have enough to eat, drink, and stay healthy. You owe it to your dog to make certain that the vomiting is a common illness rather than something really dangerous.

  • Rabies
Rabies is a common issue with pets, from dogs to rodents. Rabies often causes foaming at the mouth and will make the pet feral. Any dog that has rabies has to be put down or they will infect humans and even act aggressively towards the humans. This is just one thing that your vet will want to make sure you dog does not have. They will ask when the last rabies shot was given and possibly give your dog a new one if it has been a while.

  • Infections from contaminated food
Contaminated food can cause problems whether the dog has caught a live rodent that was sick, been given rotten meat, or their dry food was mis-manufactured. No matter what, contaminated food can make your dog vomit. Whether this vomit is white mucus or not may be up to the type of contamination.
Other illnesses such as tumors or issues with the GI tract or stomach could result in issues such as vomiting. Again, we are not vets so we can mention possible causes but we cannot diagnose your dog; therefore, you should seek a medical professional.

Dogs can have occasional foamy vomiting which is normal and there is no need to worry. Only persistent white foamy vomiting is sign of illness that can be canine bloat. This condition needs vet visit if continues for more than 24 hours. Feeding habit like overeating and rapid eating can cause this. Some foods like dry foods can also cause this condition. If your dog is nervous and under stress then bloat can result. So, get advice from your local vet.

There are many things that can cause vomiting.  Common causes include dietary indiscretion, foreign body obstruction, infectious diseases, toxicity, and metabolic diseases.  Withhold food and water for 8-12 hours and if your dog stops vomiting slowly reintroduce small amounts of water, then small amounts of a bland diet.  If your dog does not stop vomiting after 8 hours have it examined by a veterinarian.

Foamy vomiting in dogs can be not a matter of great concern if it is occasional. But persistent foamy vomiting in dogs if continues for more than 24 hours with other signs of illness like loss of appetite, lethargy, restlessness, shaking etc can be serious and medical emergency. This condition can be due to
  1. Overeating
  2. Eating rapidly
  3. Eating of dry foods
  4. Stress
  5. Nervousness
Foamy vomiting in dogs can be symptom of a serious condition called bloat. In my opinion, you should immediately get advice from the vet to avoid complications.
