It was late fall and cold outside when my huge dog was sprayed by a skunk. I called my vet and he suggested using vinegar and water douche to get the smell out. I went to the drug store and bought a case of douche bottles and washed the dog off with a hose and the douche. It worked like a charm. He went in the house and warmed up in front of a roaring fire with very little skunk odor left.
Been many years since that's happened to me ! I used to have Brittany Spaniels and the kids would take them down to the big fields to let them run. The male tangled with a skunk ! Don't know if it was too funny for me but everyone had their ways to clean that smell off and all kinds of advice and offers of help. But ! When it came down to cleaning him up ? Not a soul in sight and I was by myself! Think I used tomato paste or sauce at the time. Only thing that was funny was that everyone wanted to help but when it came down to doing it? Ha !

It was a long time ago in upstate New York, at a "peaceful, tranquil, harmonious" school for yo a oint ung men (yeah, right); father director Derrick was reading biblical passages and blessing the dinner. The 112 young men all had their eyes closed and heads bowed. You could hear the old, wooden screen door slam shut after it was pushed open. Everyone thought the same thing. Some poor soul is in for it for being so late for dinner. It took all of 6 seconds for the room to erupt into a mass of gagging, coughing and running young men. One of the farm dogs had brought a semi dead skunk into the dinning hall. The ensuing tails of clean up could fill a book.
My mother told me as a child she was sprayed by a skunk in west virginia her family was very poor she showed me photos of a old beatuo shack they lived in. So they got tomatoe and canned tomatoes and she took a bath in it
