My Daughter Had 2 Female Guinea Pigs Aged 2. Sadly One Of Them Has Just Died. I Am Worried That The Remaining Guinea Pig Will Be Lonely. Should We Introduce New Guinea Pigs To Her? If So How Many And What Age And Sex?

Guinea pigs are social animals, and so they would prefer to have company. However, you need to keep several things in mind.

Sex: Unless you want them to breed, which is recommended only if you are an experienced owner, only get an animal the same sex as your current animal. So if you have a male, get a male. If you have a female, get a female. This avoids complications that sometimes happen in spaying and neutering them later on.

While it is possible that same sex pairs will fight, this is no more than a breeding pair. Guinea pig's have their own personalities, and some will clash, no matter what the sex.

Try and match up a dominant with a introverted guinea pig. An older pig with a younger one is also a good option, however, as the younger one gets older it may try and claim dominant status over the other, but this won't last long. Try and avoid this by not getting a very excitable younger animal for a very calm older one, as the younger one will definitely start fights as it grows.

When you pair up a young guinea pig with any other guinea pig, there is a chance that as it grows, and goes through adolescence, they will fight for the top position in the hierarchy, but if this happens you can simply separate them for a while.

They should live in pairs at the minimum, they live in large packs in the wild, so need company. I would get 1 baby girl to go with her as the older one will accept it better than if it was an older girl. I definitely wouldnt get a boy if they are going to live together permanently as she will get pregnant every 16days and if she has a litter, it is best to remove the male until the babies are weaned as it stresses her out to be pregnant whilst lactating. When you put the new guinea pig in with your current one they may seem a bit aggressive towards each other, this will calm down after a while, they just need to sort out the pecking order.

Guinea pigs are social animals, so I strongly suggest that you do introduce another to her.

Gender: Unless you want them to breed (which I only recommend for professional breeders or breeders that know what they're doing) then get the opposite gender. If you don't want them to breed, get the same gender.

And just one if you have a medium or small cage. A large cage, I still say introduce only one, because it could get crowded easily and small fights may break out.

I suggest that you buy a couple guinea pigs for your daughter but it depends if you want a boy or girl. If it's a girl and you get a boy prepare for breeding.

Well if its female get another female I would recommend to get 2 so if they don't get along you can put the both together

If it is a female get another female because they are less likley to fight. Get a baby female and the older one will exept it. But try not to get a young exitable piggy because as it gets older it may try to start fights.
