1. Many more offspring of organisms are born than can be supported by the resources available. The struggle for existence.

2. All organisms are variations genetically. They have differing frequencies of various alleles in their inherited genomes and some are better suited for survival and reproductive success than their fellows in the immediate environment. This shows in their phenotype.

3. As said, more organisms are born than can be supported by the resources available, so there is a struggle for life itself and not all organisms are equal to the task, but some are more than equipped to survive and reproduce.

4. The fit are those who are better able to survive and reproduce in the immediate environment the progeny that have these inherited traits. On to grandchildren and great grandchildren.
