Triceratops is a dinosaur that is nine meters or 30 feet in length. As one of the largest and most distinctive dinosaurs, it has long been a favourite of dinosaur fans. Triceratops means 'three-horned face' and is an apt description. It has a single short horn at its nose and two long ones (the length of golf clubs) above its eyes. Although Triceratops is a vegetarian, it is a known warrior. Many fossilized remains show battle scars.

The Triceratops was one of the last dinosaurs to become extinct. Maybe that's because it had one of the largest brains of any of the dinosaurs! Its head can be as much as three meters (10 feet) long and holds the record for the largest head of any land animal. The hard skull of Triceratops provided a defensive armor and may have contributed to its reign as one of the longest-lasting dinosaurs. Beyond extinction, the sturdiness of the Triceratops skull has caused it to last as fossilized remains.

A reconstructed Triceratops skeleton is on display at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. Although a Triceratops skeleton has never been found completely intact, scientists have used what they know about other dinosaurs to imagine how it would have looked.
