Quite often you will see dog breathing heavily and having a hard time to catch their breath due to the aging process. Your dog may have a condition caused by her trachea(the tube they breath with in their throat) loosing its elasticity. As this happens it is more difficult to breath. There are some surgical interventions that may help for a period of time but there is no cure. The panting may also be from pain as your dog gets older she will develop arthritis etc, and most dogs will not whine or cry and the panting is the only way they have to alleviate it. Make an appointment with your vet for an exam and talk to him.

As with any breathing problems, see the vet, maybe he heart isn't working as well as it should. A pill may put it right, and the vet can tell if she is suffering.
