Lions keep their tempature down by sheltering under trees during the hottest parts of the day. Although the temperature in the shade is still formidably high it's is cooler, especially if they sprawl out as well to increase surface area. Also because they aren't exercising their body temperature won't get any hotter.
Contrary to popular belief cats do sweat although this is only through their paws. Which means that they won't lower much body heat this way.
