Well if the dog is not aggressive then one can let him be around. Usually breeders do not let the male dog around when the female dog is having puppies. Anyway it would be best to let the female dog find a cozy spot to give birth with minimum of trouble and as such it would be a good idea to leave her alone without anyone, man or dog around.

Even in the wild it is the female dog that is mainly concerned in rearing the puppies and as such the male dog has little or no role to play other than hunting prey and perhaps protecting the puppies if need be from any harm. In fact in some species the female dog after the birth of the puppies generally does not allow the male dog to come near the puppies. Also it would be a good idea to take pet insurance especially if your dog is going to give birth as it would provide cover for any expenses accrued due to the dog and the puppies.

Most females become very aggressive when the pups are born...also in the wild male dogs are usually not around the pups at first. Introduce the pups to the father when they are a little older.

Best not to have any other pets around her at all while she gives birth, as their presence may inhibit her birthing. Most bitches will protect their pups from other dogs until they are toddling, at about 3-4 weeks. For the father's sake I would not expose him to aggression from the bitch. He will also not like it at all if the pups mistake his undercarriage for teats, if you see what I mean.

I have two males, the one male is not the father, he loves to see the babies after they are born and Mommy does not mind. The one male who is not the father will kiss the babies. I do not let them around Mommy when she is giving birth, for her peace of mind, its a private time for her and she needs to pay attention and get rest in between puppies. Later I will let the males know they had babies, they kiss and sniff and they are done with it, no need to bother them about it any further.

It depends on the dogs if they are mother and father together all the time it seems ok
dogs are a pack animal the mother does not let him pay much attention until about 4-5 weeks

No, keep all other pets away from the mommy and babies, until she is settled down with the fact of having new babies to care for!

My Bitch is very protective over her new pups and growls and the dad to go away so he knows not to go near them but we have shown him the pups when she is not around and he has just had a sniff and walked off.

No, keep the father away. The mothers natural instinct is to protect her pups, she may kill them if she feels scared for them.

I have to Maltese and the male dog and the female were litter mates. Anytime I try to take the male dog from the female, she gets very upset. I chose to allow the make to stay with her and let him have the option to leave if he wants to. On the other hand, my female likes the male dog around. I can honestly say that this is the only situation where I have seen this before. It's odd but kinda sweet.

My dog had 4 puppies 10 days ago so the puppies are 10 days one of the puppies die yesterday it didn't want to eat and it was crying like if he was really in pain I felt really bad because he was the one I wanted to keep. Well today the other puppies are starting to cry the same way he did after they feed off they mother could it be her milk that causing this? I pick one up and try to warm it up and she stops but once I put her back with her mom she starts again 10 mins later I don't want them to die can I buy them the puppy milk they sell? Just incase it is the moms milk that is making them feel this way.

No!!!...The mother  will not be pleased to have the male in her
presence while she's giving birth... Or any time after that.

But you
should introduce them to their father, let him sniff them and get to
know them... Eventually the mother will allow dad in her and the
baby's presence.

No.. Let her do her job with out the father around, its for the health of the puppies. She needs to pay attention, why would you bother her, she can see the father later, and he can se ethe puppies later.

No! Because we should not let other dogs be around the puppies!!!The mom should be doing all the work she needs to do.! Later on when they grow the  puppies may see other dogs.
