Baby rabbits, or kits, usually open their eyes 10 - 12 days after birth. They are born deaf, blind and furless, but should start to grow fur after about 3 days.  A doe will want a safe and secure area in their cage to make a nest in; this could be a box in a draft free corner. Rabbits with outdoor areas of their hutch may dig a hole for their nest. Fill the nest box with grass hay, newspaper or cotton so that a comfy bed can be made for the baby rabbits. Try not to use wooden shavings where possible in the bedding area, as this can irritate the eyes and cause respiratory problems.

The baby rabbits will tend to stay in the nest box until they have their fur and have opened their eyes; during this time they shouldn't be disturbed except to check they are ok and not getting squashed. They will come out when they are ready. Although rabbits don't often eat their young, it is possible that if they don't recognize the scent left on the babies that they may feel threatened and eat them.

Rabbits can have different sized litters; this usually correlates with the size and breed of the rabbit. For example, the smallest breeds such as dwarf rabbits tend to have between 1 and 4 babies, with medium rabbits having between 7 and 12. Large breeds can have anything up to 15 babies.

I have had a lot of baby Holland Lops that just WOULD NOT open their eyes. What I do, is if the baby does not open the eyes by day 12, I get *CLEAN water that is a little hotter than Luke-Warm and dip a *CLEAN rag in it and gently wipe any gunk off and soak their eyelids for about 2 minutes. Then I gently open them. You always want to keep a close eye on the babies that do not open their eyes on their own. If a baby goes over about day 15 without seeing, its brain gives up and does not develop what it needs for the ability to see. If the baby re-seals its eyes overnight, just repeat the cycle. Most babies who do not open their eyes by themselves have a MUCH greater chance of being blind or going blind. Always make sure that there is nothing to stop the baby from opening its eyes. We only use the ointment Terramycin when, like the first person said, they have Nest Box Eyes. Usually after you open the baby's eyes they will squint for a few days. This is normal. They should have their eyes fully open by about day 15. Hope this helps someone!

Well actually, Kits (domestic baby rabbits) open their eyes on 11th or 12th day after their birth, right ofter 10th day.
If baby rabbits hasn't opened their eyes by the time it is 12th day you may have to help.
Sometimes they gets something called "nestbox eye".in this case they got some crust grunk on their eyes, for this you have to wet a piece of soft cloth with warm water, they gently open their eyes. But if, the amount of grunk is more then you need to use an ointment Terramycin. This will clear out the grunk. Your baby rabbit will open his eyes easily

Baby Rabbits Open their Eyes at about ten to twelve days. If you identify that for any reason their eyes open by twelve days, check the ones with their eyes closed very carefully to be sure they aren't matted shut due to any  bacterial infection. If this occurs, wipe the eyes with a warm wash cloth to see if they will open. If they produce pus or other matter, treat them with an ophthalmic antibiotic or Nitrofurazone Powder twice a day until clear or alternatively contact the nearest Vet near you.

It depends on their health, and genes, but, the average is 10-13 days, and occasionally, an early rabbit 9 days, but not very often!!!

I've heard that they open their eyes in about 2 weeks, 12 days, or even in about 10 days after they're born. Sometimes they may not even open their eyes at the same time, on that same day. My friend had trouble getting one of his lops to open their eyes. So after he waited for a few more days(total of 17 days)it finally opened it's eyes. Now, I have 6 baby rabbits, and they're only 3 days old. Hopefully they live longer, so that I could understand more about their adaptation to the new world.
