Its incomplete dominance in genes. The Red bull is a dominant allele but you need two dominants to produce another pure red bull. The white is recessive and you need two white to make offspring that is all white. Roan is the white and red combined. Its like mixing red flowers and white flowers, there not enough pigment in the red/white to produce red, it will always be pink.
