Dog Doesn't Want To Drink Water?

Unless he seems dehydrated, he may just need a lot less water than you think he does.  If there's nothing wrong with him, don't pressure him into drinking, some dogs get suspicious of anything that you try too hard to get then to do.  They equate your stress about the subject as a negative, and so will be reluctant to partake.  In other words, your concern about his not drinking may be why he's not drinking.  Unless he has some other physical symptoms, and is not showing signs of dehydration, put clean water out for him every day, and back off… he'll drink when he's thirsty, and you can rest assured that if he's peeing… he's drinking.

I have a yellow Lab who is 8 years old. He is mostly a porch dog who lays around all day. His most physical activity is walking around the farm with me. He is not interested in drinking water at all. Is there a medical problem associated with dogs not drinking much water. He's a very large dog and he loves to eat.....but shows no interest in water. Any advice?

What breed of dog do you have?  certain breeds like dalmatians need to drink a lot of water to flush out their bladder so they do not get urinary stones.  I have dalmatians and the vet told me I could put a little broth in the water to induce them to drink.

My vet told me that when my Boxer had a serious kidney infection and would not drink much at all to mix 1 heaping tablespoon baking soda, 1 level teaspoon salt and 1 gallon water and keep it available for him.  This mixture is kind of like doggy pedialyte.

Try adding a bit milk in the water.

Try an ice cube. My beagle absolutely loves to play around with ice cubes. She swats and chases the cubes around on the tile floor. She also picks it up in her mouth so I know that she is getting water when the ice melts in her mouth. Also, she licks up the puddles as the ice melts. She sometimes goes through three or four cubes before she gets tired of it.

Since she seems to like boiled eggs, I chopped it and dropped onto the water and she finished both the water and the egg.

My shitzu stopped drinking water, had to take her to vet and they gave her IVS to hydrate her again, but shes still not drinking, the vet ran blood tests and everything was ok except dehydration. She doesnt act sick. She doesnt get much exercise, just to go out to potty.Could this be the reason why shes not drinking??I've changed her water bowls, gave alittle milk in water (which last nite she drank that but this morning shes back to not drinking)I'm scared,I can't afford to take her back to vet,its already cost me almost $400 and shes still not drinking.....Please help.
