At eight weeks of age a puppy is just beginning to wean away from their mother. It is hard to get a good grasp on exactly how much they will weigh as an adult at this time. But if you know the breed of dog you have, you may make a pretty close guess just by looking at their parents. A puppy that weighs around 9 lbs at eight weeks of age in most cases will weigh somewhere around 25 lbs or so at adulthood. German Shepard pups for example may weigh around 20 lbs at the age of eight weeks and often grow into adult dogs that weigh in excess of 50 lbs.

A dog grows fast in the first three to four months of their life is given the proper care and nutrition that they need. Dogs are descended from wolves and like them are carnivores. To get them to grow to their full potential they need to be fed a variety of foods including beef such as vegetables and grains, along with a wide variety of other foods.

Most dogs outside of the very largest breeds become sexually mature anywhere from six to twelve months of age. At this time if they have been cared for properly they are ready to breed. After a female has been bred you can expect a pregnancy period of roughly two to two and one half months at which time a litter of an average of six puppies is born. Some large breeds may have considerably more puppies and many smaller breeds such as Chihuahuas may have considerably less.

Closely monitor your puppy in the first several months of its life in order to ensure that it grows to be a happy and healthy adult who will provide you years and years of joy and service.

Normally you can judge the weight of a grown dog by multiplying the weight at 6 weeks of age by 10. Probably a pup weighting 8 lbs at 8 weeks will be a 60 or 70 pound dog. I am fostering a puppy who is 9 weeks today and weights in at 20 lbs I expect him to go about 130 to 140 by the time he's 2 years old. Hope this helps.

The puppy will probably weigh about (it depends on what type of dog) from 30-40 lbs.

The best way to choose a puppy is to look at the breed of the dog and their normal uses .then choose the one you like for your purpose.
