There are different types of geese, however the most common and popular goose is the Canadian Goose which is largely found in North America as well as throughout the United States and wetlands in Canada. The appearance of this goose consists of a black beak which is shaped like a long triangle with a thick oval body and long neck. The main colors of this goose are brownish grey and black and white.

They can be between 22 to 45 inches long with a wingspan of 75 inches. Their head and necks are black with a thick white line across both cheeks. They have either a pale or white breast and sides with a brown back and brown wings. Also, it is difficult to distinguish males and females because they look similar.

The Canadian goose will reside near lakes and waterways and they are most present in Pennsylvania, New York, Nevada, Washington and North Carolina. They like to eat berries, seeds, grass, food scraps, aquatic plants and insects. They also make a loud sound when they call and some Canadian geese that reside in northern populations have a very noticeable cackling call and when they feel threatened they tend to hiss.

They tend to travel in medium to large flocks so they are not likely to be alone, and they can adapt to manmade lakes very easily. You need to keep in mind that they can be quite aggressive to intruders, which can include birds or humans. In this instance they will either charge or hiss if they are being threatened by unwanted visitors. In addition, if you are having a lakeside picnic you may come into contact with these geese because they tend to be searching for food scraps and may bother you for some food.
