I have a Betta in a 16 gallon with 2 plattys, 2 zebra danios, 3 neon tetras, 2 shrimps, 2 snails and 1 octocinclus. They all get along and live happily. Make sure to put the new Betta last.

No, that's not really a good idea. They are very protective when it comes to their territory. I put a beta fish in with another fish, and I had to take them out cause they were fighting constantly.

No you should not put beta fish with other fish. They are naturally aggressive and they even harass their females. Therefore you should not risk it.

Beta fish can be put in with other fish, however, the other fish need to be NON aggressive, or they will all eat each other.

Ye sure you can the betta does not have the best eyes so if he attacks another fish it is because he mistakes them for another male .
I have 3 male betta in one tank and they don't bother with each other as I have had them together since they were babys and there more bothered about there own refelections so don't be too worryed if your betta does start harassing your other fish it is mainly to create the hiaraki as long the betta is not the big top fish of the tank you should be alright hope this helps :]
