There are many medicines available to manage pain in dogs. But, you should not use any drug either for animal use or human use without consulting a vet because he can decide dose and duration of use after measuring risk benefit ratio.  Following is list of non steroidal anti inflammatory medicines that can be use to kill pain in dogs.
  1. Aspirin
  2. Rimadyl
  3. Meloxicam
  4. Tepoxalin
  5. Etogesic
  6. Deracoxib
There can be many more but names of these medicines can be different in your country. You should get advice from your vet before use.

My dog is 8 yrs old and about 80 lbs also. I asked my vet, and a good friend who is a vet. Tech. They both said that glucosamine is good for joint/arthritis problems. My dog gets one pill (100mg) once a day.

Too many baby aspirin causes a dog to bleed thru it's internal organs and will eventually urinate blood. This happened to my springer after about 3 months of aspirin for hip pain. I had to give the dog pepcid-AC to reverse the effects of the aspirin. A vet can prescribe a safe pain med for you pet. So you can give a pet baby aspirin for a short time but not for a long period.

You should consider taking the dog to the vet. Large breed dogs are sometimes prone to hip dysplasia. However, if it is arthritis I would think ibuprofin as it is anti-inflamatory.

Although I see this comment was left 11 months ago- For anyone looking for the same answer- NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!! You cannot give these drugs to dogs!!!!!! Dogs systems are very different to humans and you will in fact poison them if you give these drugs to them!!!!!! Some may not appear to do any harm initially but will cumulate in the liver, leading to eventual death. If you believe your dog is in pain take it to the vet- they can prescribe something safe. Never attempt to medicate your pets with drugs designed for humans. I am a vet nurse and have seen many cases of poisoning and death resulting from self-medication with human drugs.
