You don't "step in spider poison". The spider bites you and injects its venom into your bloodstream. As far as what happened to you... I don't know, man. You could have stepped on another kind of bug, or maybe a cactus spine (I've heard tales of them getting embedded in the skin and the victim being none the wiser). I'd go to your doctor if I were you.
