Thy lived in North America and Europe during the Miocene and Pliocene Epoch (23 million to 2.6 million years ago). They spread to Asia and Africa after Pliocene Epoch. Some Saber Tooth Tigers moved to South America during the Pleistocene Epoch. They lived in areas where plant-eating animals lived. These areas include pine forests, shrubby areas and grasslands.

Saber Tooth Tiger  lived long ago after the dinosaurs died out. It is thought that saber toothed tigers came across a land-bridge into america.  Gastaunus, (I think that is how you spell it) was a large, carnivourousbirdenteral america, and all over the world in various locations. His reign came to an end when the saber toothed cats crossed the land-bridge.  It is believed by many people that saber toothed tigers came during the ice age. Ice age the movie also contributed to the popular belief that sabers appeared during this time.  But that is entirely wrong. If you went back a couple hundred-million years, what you would have seen is open savannas surrrounded by lush, green shrub forests.  Ehracharia (again, I can only guess how to spell this ancient tree's name)       , which is pronounced air-uh-care-eee-uh, also surrounded the vast open praries. Saber toothed tigers actually never existed. The correct term for this ancient cat is the saber toothed cats or something. Sabers lived in prides, much like lions of today.  They had one lead male and several females and their young.Their main source of pray was the Machrocenia. (still guessing how to spell this). The machrocenia is pronounced mac-ro-keen-eee-uh. I hope this helped.  not that good at remembering all the info on all of those 5 hr DVD's that me and my dad sometimes watch together.
