Of course donkeys can eat apples and carrots – both are good sources of fibre, and make a change from the donkey’s usual diet.

What Do Donkeys Eat?
Donkeys are grazers, just like horses. Needless to say, this means that they mainly just eat grass - and lots of it.

Donkeys will also eat hay, some flowers, and even bits of tree bark if they get the chance.

In the wild, donkeys don’t get the chance to eat carrots, as they’re root vegetables and grow underground where donkeys can't see or reach them. Apples, on the other hand, are readily available if there's a tree nearby, and both horses and donkeys will happily eat them off the floor.. Donkeys love the taste and texture of apples!

Donkeys love food – you can feed them bread, cookies and peppermints, but only in moderation. You don’t want to give them stomach ache!
