Some tadpoles will eat small amounts of goldfish flakes which you can purchase at any good pet shop. This food should only be used when the tadpoles after they are a few weeks old.

When they are born they will generally eat the jelly which surrounded their eggs. However, most tadpoles when they are very tiny are herbivores which mean that they will feed on plants and algae on the stones in the ponds.

As they get larger they turn into carnivores so tey will eat other tadpoles in the pond. A good indication of this development is the visible growth of their legs beginning to form.

At this point in their lives you could start feeding them little bits of goldfish flakes every day. Tadpoles can generally take anything from six weeks to eight months to develop into full grown frogs and once they are at the frog stage they will be self-sufficient and able to find their own food.

It wouldn't harm them though to provide a few insects or blood-worms to help them along in the feeding process. Or you could always splash out on some fishermen's maggots which they'll enjoy. You can purchase these at any fishing shop.

What I have heard: For the tads, boiled lettuce, some leaves, or even old icky blueberries--things that would naturally fall into a pond in your area-if algae is not available. When they begin developing legs, add fish food, blood worms, or dog food in a pinch. Make sure there is a perch for climbing, resting and transforming the gills to lungs--a stick or rock at an angle may work.

NO!fish food is very toxic to tadpoles.I suggest you feed the tadpole some boiled lettuce, chop it up a little, then feed it to the baby frog.Another food that frogs can eat are algae.the algae is simple to get, just find a pond or a nearby swamp.Algae loves to grow in swampy lands. And you can feed it some aquatic plants,or  ''seaweed''.
